ChoiceDek Deck Consumer Complaints: Alleged Mold and Spotting
The national law firm of Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, LLP, is currently investigating consumer complaints about ChoiceDek home deck and railing materials on behalf of a homeowner. ChoiceDek is a wood and plastic composite material used to build outdoor decks and railings.
The Weyerhaeuser Company, which markets and sells the composite deck boards manufactured by Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies, advertises ChoiceDek as a premium product, needing no sealing, staining or other protective weather treatments, with a limited lifetime warranty. ChoiceDek is available through Lowe’s home improvement stores.
Some ChoiceDek customers have alleged that mold, mildew and other “black spots” have developed on their ChoiceDek decking boards and railings. Homeowners have alleged the mold spots are either difficult to keep away (requiring constant cleaning) or unsolvable (returning within a day or two).
