Outdoor and Home Deck Defects:
ABT Co., WeatherBest and Veranda
Outdoor Decking Failure
The national law firm of Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, LLP, is investigating consumer complaints concerning ABT Co, WeatherBest and Veranda brand home deck and railing materials manufactured by LP (Louisiana-Pacific) Building Products.
On August 7, 2008, Louisiana-Pacific issued a Product Advisory warning to consumers and homebuilders who have installed ABT Co, WeatherBest and Verdana composite board decking materials. The deck and railing products, all produced by Louisiana Pacific at its Meridian, Idaho mill within the past 2 years, are showing signs of rapid deterioration and product failure.
Consumers are urged to check their ABT Co, WeatherBest and Veranda products for cracks, surface deterioration and chipping. These defects are signs that the building material is in danger of breaking. The defective composite building material poses a safety hazard and must be replaced.
Louisiana Pacific has stated, "Some of the product can prematurely deteriorate and break, posing a risk of injury." Homeowners should stay off of decks showing deterioration.
