Network Associates Securities
Fraud Class Action
After a competitive bidding process and the filing of extensive pleadings and a hearing before the United States District Court, Lieff Cabraser, was appointed to serve as Lead Counsel for a class of persons and entities who allege securities fraud by Network Associates, Inc. during the period January 20, 1998 through April 6, 1999.
On May 21, 2001, the United States District Court granted final approval to a $30 million settlement of the case. The deadline for class members to submit their proof of claim forms in order to be eligible to receive any of the settlement proceeds has expired.
In approving the settlement, U.S. District Court Judge William H. Alsup observed, "Another factor is the expense and views of counsel here. We have class counsel who's one of the most foremost law firms in the country in both securities law and class actions. And they have a very excellent reputation for the conduct of these kinds of cases and their experience and views on whether it's worth the candle to go any further means a lot."
