San Francisco Chronicle, "Guards seek overtime pay for off-the-clock briefings"
A group of past and present employees of Inter-Con Security Systems charged in a lawsuit Tuesday that the company requires security guards to attend 15-minute briefings before each shift without paying them. The proposed class-action suit, filed in federal court in San Francisco, seeks overtime pay of about $1,000 a year for each employee. Lawyers for the guards said the case would affect about 2,000 current and former California employees and could cover workers in other states as well. "While the security guards understand the importance of being informed and prepared for their duties, it is unfair and illegal for Inter-Con to expect the guards to work for free," plaintiffs' lawyer Barbara Chisholm said.
