European Medicines Agency to Review Yaz Risks

Law360 reports that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) announced on Monday that it will meet in February 2013 to review the adverse side effects associated with third- and fourth-generation hormonal birth control pills such as Yaz. The EMA’s Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee will investigate whether to restrict later generation hormonal birth control pills, such as Yaz, to patients who are not able to take other contraceptives.

Bayer AG, the manufacturer of Yaz birth control bills, is currently involved in litigation in both France and the United States, where patients have filed lawsuits for various adverse side effects they have suffered allegedly as a result of taking Yaz birth control pills.
