We are delighted to announce that Law360 has chosen Lieff Cabraser for its inaugural list of “Litigation Powerhouses,” the Top 50 Firms for Litigation (subscription), firms that have demonstrated “historic, precedent-setting wins in class action litigation, jaw-dropping jury verdicts, and dramatic upsets on appeal.” As the publication notes, “Law360 editors weighed the nature of the litigation victories the teams were able to score for clients at trial, on appeal, or in pretrial dismissals over the past year, and eyed the new matters clients have tapped the firm to handle in recent months, choosing the firms that consistently leveraged a deep bench into outstanding wins.”
Lieff Cabraser was also chosen as one of Law360’s “5 Small(er) But Mighty Litigation Shops”, an “elite group of firms with fewer than 200 litigation attorneys” that achieved special prominence on the larger inaugural list of litigation powerhouses for their outsize accomplishments.
Lieff Cabraser managing partner Steve Fineman explained to Law360 that the firm has been able to come out on top because of its laser focus: All 66 of the firm’s attorneys focus on litigation, and all represent plaintiffs.
“I think that makes a difference,” Fineman said. “We’re able to excel because we only represent plaintiffs and almost entirely on a contingent fee basis.”
Fineman also attributes the firm’s success to careful case selection and the efficient and smart use of lawyers on a case. Because Lieff Cabraser fronts all costs for clients against any future recovery, it has to be — and is — especially careful about only picking the cases that have good prospects in court.
“Our interests are definitely aligned with those of our clients because we only get our costs back if we prevail,” Fineman said.
