Tesla Solar Roof

Lieff Cabraser is investigating claims that Tesla has drastically increased the price of its solar roof tiles for prospective buyers, resulting in dramatic increases to already existing agreements. In some instances, price quotes for buyers more than doubled, and customers were told that their installation projects would be delayed if they did not accept the new terms right away.

One solar roof customer told The Verge he signed a contract in February 2021 to install the solar roof for $35,000, with an additional $30,000 for the batteries, then subsequently received an email from Tesla stating that in several days he would receive a new contract with a $75,000 quote for the solar roof and a $35,000 quote for the batteries, equaling to an overall 114 percent increase in price. According to the New York Times, “The company is charging tens of thousands of dollars more to cover roofs with its much-anticipated solar shingles, angering some customers.”
