Vuse Teen Vaping Injuries & Deceptive Marketing Investigation
Lieff Cabraser is investigating reports of serious vaping injuries relating to Vuse Alto menthol e-cigarettes. In October 2023, U.S. health officials banned the sale of Vuse Alto menthol e-cigarettes, which have surpassed Juul as the top-selling vaping products in the country amid a regulatory crackdown on the industry. Nicotine ingestion from vaping or smoking can cause disabling and/or fatal strokes, seizures, heart attacks and or serious lung conditions.
As reported by the Wall Street Journal, “Vuse’s sleek vape pens, which are sold at gasoline stations, convenience stores and other retailers, have become increasingly popular among children and teenagers. Vuse Alto has been on the market for several years and is sold by Reynolds American, the maker of Camel and Newport cigarettes.”
The U.S. Food and Drug Adminstration noted that Reynolds American was unable to demonstrate that the Vuse products presented enough of a public-health benefit to adult cigarette smokers to outweigh the known risk to youth.
