As reported by the Houston Chronicle, the Texas Supreme Court has ruled in favor of Houston teenage sex trafficking victims, who in three civil lawsuits against Facebook alleged they met their abusive pimps through Facebook’s messaging features. The teens sued the social media giant for negligence and product liability, claiming it failed to warn about or attempt to prevent sex trafficking from taking place on its platforms, and that it meanwhile benefited from the sexual exploitation of trafficking victims.

In its ruling, the Court stated that Facebook is not a “lawless no-man’s-land” and can in fact be held liable for the conduct of pimps who use its technology to recruit and prey on children.
