The Daily Californian recently covered a panel discussion at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law featuring members of the legal team behind Thakur v. Trump, the ongoing pro bono class action challenging the federal government’s sudden and unlawful termination of critical research grants across the UC system.
The panel, hosted by Berkeley Law’s Plaintiffs’ Law Association, featured Lieff Cabraser attorneys Elizabeth Cabraser and Annie Wanless, along with Berkeley Law Professor Claudia Polsky, who discussed the extraordinary pace, complexity, and scope of the litigation.
As noted in the article, the case quickly expanded from an urgent response to threatened grant terminations at the University of California, Berkeley into systemwide litigation involving all 10 UC campuses, two national laboratories, and billions of dollars in federally awarded research funding.
The discussion underscored the unusual scale of the case, which has already generated more than 200 docket entries, including motions, hearings, and court orders, as the team continues working to protect grants that support vital scientific and academic research.
The litigation remains active as the parties exchange information with the federal government to determine which grants may still be restored.
