Our First fund-raising challenge ends Wednesday, May 8th at noon – we have two days to raise as much money as possible on our voting page to win 5 extra minutes of stage time!

Lieff Cabraser’s house band The R-23s will be returning to the competitive stage at the upcoming 2019 “Banding Together to End Domestic Violence” annual battle-of-the-bands fundraiser on June 20th at The Chapel in San Francisco.  Held every summer in San Francisco (June) and Los Angeles (July), the Banding Together fundraiser benefits the Family Violence Appellate Project (FVAP), whose mission is to keep domestic violence survivors safe and create legal precedents in favor of survivors throughout the state. FVAP is dedicated to empowering survivors, helping them get the safety and justice they deserve, and overturning court decisions that put their children at risk of ongoing abuse.

At last year’s event, The R-23s came in 2nd place, raising nearly $14,000. All together,  the Northern California benefit raised a total of $168,041.90 for FVAP’s exceedingly good cause.

This one-of-a-kind musical fest features bands from California’s most philanthropic law firms and corporate legal teams who battle it out to earn the coveted “Best Lawyer Band” title.

Votes can be cast in any amount, there is no limit to the number of times you can vote, and the band that raises the most money wins! Votes can also be cast in person at the event, but the bands with the most votes leading up to the event will have a great advantage, so vote early and vote often. All votes for this band will be directly donated to Family Violence Appellate Project and are 100% tax-deductible.

The R-23s invite you to share your enthusiasm for the work of the Family Violence Appellate Project and your support dollars via the link on event fundraising page.

If you want to attend the June 20th show, you can purchase tickets to Banding Together to End Domestic Violence, San Francisco here.

About the Family Violence Appellate Project (FVAP)

The Family Violence Appellate Project is transforming the power of the civil legal system and leveling the playing field for survivors of domestic violence. In many cases, survivors have also suffered financial abuse and cannot afford to appeal a trial court decision that puts them or their children in danger. At FVAP, we believe justice should be available to everyone, not just those who can afford it. We partner with pro bono attorneys from California’s top law firms and corporate legal teams to provide free, high-quality legal representation to survivors, giving them the best possible chance at success in their appeal. We win 74% of the affirmative appeals we bring to court on behalf of CA survivors — far above the statewide average of 20% — and 100% of appeals we defend.

About The R-23s

Named the “Best Lawyer Band in the Bay” after playing their way to victory at the 2017 Family Violence Appellate Project “Battle of the Bands,” Lieff Cabraser’s R-23s play songs by The Clash, Otis Redding, Cream, Chuck Berry, and more as modern day inheritors of the spirit of classic rock and roll. The R-23s include Melissa Gardner on flute/vocals, Taylor Evans on vocals, Djuna Gray on bass, Elizabeth Cabraser on drums, Phong-Chau Nguyen on guitar/vocals, Anthony McDaniel on lead vocals, and Elizabeth Schneider on guitar.
