The opening session on Juul E-Cigarette Litigation at the October 2019 Mass Torts Made Perfect (MTMP) Conference at The Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas will be led by Lieff Cabraser partner Wendy R. Fleishman, along with Mike Papantonio of Levin Papantonio, Robert Eglet of Eglet Adams, and John Yanchunis of Morgan & Morgan.

Widespread media attention has focused on new studies and reports that have emerged revealing potentially serious dangers and heightened risks associated with the new type of e-cigarette called the “Juul.” The Juul is especially popular among young adults due to its sleek and discreet design and its liquid-filled cartridges (“juul pods”) that come in a variety of candy-like flavors, and that popularity could lead to serious adverse health consequences for younger Americans.

New findings have shown an elevated risk of stroke for people under the age of 26 who use the vaporized tobacco product, including determinations that one Juul pod is the equivalent to two packs of old-style cigarettes. Despite the dangerous safety risks associated with these e-cigarettes, manufacturers have failed to issue any recalls or increase product warnings and safety cautions. Lawsuits are being filed that include claims ranging from negligence to false representation as well as violations of consumer, health, and safety codes.
