Nashville, Tenn. – National plaintiffs’ law firm Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, LLP and the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association (TTLA) announce the creation of the “Trial Lawyers’ Community Relief Fund” through The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee to provide assistance to victims of the March 3, 2020 tornadoes across Tennessee. The fund allows attorneys and others in Tennessee and nationwide to contribute donations to relief efforts in Tennessee following the recent devastating tornadoes.

Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein and Mark Chalos, managing partner of Lieff Cabraser’s Nashville office and TTLA Vice President, made lead contributions to launch the fund. The goal is to raise funds for immediate relief for Tennesseans who have suffered losses, including those who lost homes and businesses, due to this calamitous weather event.

“Our community is hurting right now,” Chalos said. “As trial lawyers, we have dedicated our careers to helping our neighbors in times of need. This fund will enable us to get relief quickly to those Tennesseans who need it the most.”

Just past midnight Tuesday morning March 3, powerful tornadoes touched ground in the city of Nashville, and moved east through neighboring Wilson, Putnam, and Smith counties, ending near Cookeville, Tennessee. Twenty-four Tennesseans were killed.

Winds reached 175 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service, which categorized the events as EF3 and EF4 tornadoes. Hundreds of homes and businesses were destroyed or severely damaged.

“Growing up in Cookeville, which was hit particularly hard,” said Matt Hardin of Matt Hardin Law PLLC, President of TTLA. “But we always pull together and help our neighbors in difficult times.”

TTLA aims to protect the constitutional guarantee of access to justice for Tennesseans, Tennessee families, and small businesses. Learn more at www.ttla.org.
