Our first fund-raising challenge ends Thursday, August 6th at noon – we have two days to raise as much money as possible on our voting page to win more screen time in the show with an extra song!

Lieff Cabraser’s in-house rock band, The R-23s, return on October 22 to defend their title of “Best Lawyer Band in the Bay” at the 2020 Family Violence Appellate Project’s (FVAP) virtual Banding Together to End Domestic Violence show. This will be FVAP’s 8th annual attorney battle-of-the-bands fundraiser and fierce competition, featuring bands from California’s most philanthropic law firms and corporate legal teams.

At last year’s event, along with receiving first place and Best Band bragging rights, the R-23’s were able to account for $22,817 toward the event’s total contribution of $186,687 to help California survivors of domestic violence!

Supporters can vote for the R23s by making a donation on their fundraising page. Votes can be cast in any amount, and there is no limit to the number of times you can vote. The band that raises the most money wins! And the donations go to a very important cause — the Family Violence Appellate Project, the only legal aid nonprofit in California dedicated to giving domestic violence survivors a second chance at justice by appealing and overturning dangerous trial court decisions that put survivors or their kids at risk of ongoing abuse.

All votes for this band will be directly donated to Family Violence Appellate Project and are 100% tax-deductible.

Come see the virtual show Thursday, October 22 and help cheer the band on to another victory!

About the Family Violence Appellate Project (FVAP)

The Family Violence Appellate Project is transforming the power of the civil legal system and leveling the playing field for survivors of domestic violence. In many cases, survivors have also suffered financial abuse and cannot afford to appeal a trial court decision that puts them or their children in danger. At FVAP, we believe justice should be available to everyone, not just those who can afford it. We partner with pro bono attorneys from California’s top law firms and corporate legal teams to provide free, high-quality legal representation to survivors, giving them the best possible chance at success in their appeal. We win 74% of the affirmative appeals we bring to court on behalf of CA survivors — far above the statewide average of 20% — and 100% of appeals we defend.

About The R-23s

Named the “Best Lawyer Band in the Bay” after playing their way to victory at the 2019 & 2017 Family Violence Appellate Project “Battle of the Bands,” Lieff Cabraser’s R-23s play songs by The Clash, Otis Redding, Cream, Chuck Berry, and more as modern day inheritors of the spirit of classic rock and roll. The R-23s feature Melissa Gardner on flute/vocals, Taylor Evans on vocals, Djuna Gray on bass, Elizabeth Cabraser on drums, Phong-Chau Nguyen on guitar/vocals, Anthony McDaniel on lead vocals, and Elizabeth Schneider on guitar. Don’t miss the chance to support a great cause and see them virtually live on October 22nd!
