Hosted by the Tribal In-House Counsel Association and the Indigenous Law and Policy Center at Michigan State University, the 2020 Indigenous Law Conference will take place November 10, 12, and 13 on Zoom.
Held annually, the goal of the Indigenous Law conference is to bring speakers together from around the country to discuss issues involving indigenous justice systems, tribal sovereignty, and self-determination. A collaborative partnership with TICA in 2015 has allowed the Indigenous Law Conference to be a cutting edge event led by those in the field, In-House Counsel: some of the most important people working for tribal self-governance.
This year’s conference will feature six panel discussions over the course of three days covering a diverse set of topics including, “COVID-19 Related Litigation,” “Child Welfare and Social Services,” “Quarantine Issues and Their Enforcement,” “Oral Arguments Remotely, What Could Go Wrong?!,” “Voting Rights and The 2020 Election,” and “The McGirt Decision.”

About the Indigenous Law & Policy Center
The Indigenous Law & Policy Center is dedicated to training law students and lawyers in topics of Federal Indian Law and providing services to institutional clients such as Indian tribes, tribal courts, and other tribal organizations on a wide variety of legal and policy questions. Students in the Indigenous Law Clinic perform extensive research and writing on behalf of tribal governments concerning real-world Indian law questions. The ICWA Appellate Project supplies free legal services to tribes enforcing the Indian Child Welfare Act. Along with the Tribal In-House Counsel Association, the Center hosts an annual conference that furnishes continuing education opportunities for attorneys practicing Indian law. The Center is also responsible for Turtle Talk; the Indigenous law blog dedicated to publishing legal issues and documents concerning Indian Country with a special emphasis on topics related to Indian Tribes in Michigan and the Great Lakes region.
