Lieff Cabraser Nashville is proud to be the Champion sponsor for the Nashville Bar Association’s Diversity Summit 2022 on September 9 at the Belmont School of Law.
Diversity 2022 // The Time is Now: Transforming Ideas into Action is a full-day conference focusing moving beyond conceptual ideas in diversity, equity, and inclusion and into creating actionable plans to address the disparities facing the legal profession and our society. Lectures and interactive small group workshops will give attendees the tools to become advocates of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Keynote speaker Cyntoia Brown Long’s speech is titled, “Misjudged: The Case of the Criminalized Survivor.” In 2006, Long was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for murder after being a victim of sex trafficking. Following legal and celebrity activism that made national news, her sentence was commuted and she was released from prison in 2019. She has since written a memoir and her life story is the subject of an upcoming program on Netflix.
Lecture topics include: “The Effects of Underfunding 1890 Land-Grant Colleges and Universities on Diversity in Higher Ed” with Rep. Harold Love, “Pursuing Innocence” with Davidson County Public Defender Martesha L. Johnson & Jessica Van Dyke of the Tennessee Innocence Project, and “Put the Diversity Thumb on the Scales to Boost Your Firm’s Bottom Line” with Joyce Searcy, Director of Community Relations at Belmont University, among others.
For decades, Lieff Cabraser has proudly supported civil rights, human rights, increased access to legal services, and initiatives and organizations working to improve civil justice, to increase diversity in the legal profession, and to assist the underserved in our communities.
