We are pleased to announce that Law360 has named Lieff Cabraser partner Michelle Lamy an Employment Law Rising Star for 2023 (subscription). Law360’s Rising Stars are attorneys “under 40 whose legal accomplishments belie their age.” After reviewing more than 1,300 submissions, a team of editors selected 183 honorees. Michelle is one of only six employment law practitioners in the U.S. to make the list.

The profile highlights Michelle’s work on the groundbreaking Google gender discrimination class action brought on behalf of more than 15,000 female Google workers in California who accused the tech giant of engaging in systemic and pervasive pay and promotion discrimination against its female employees. The case concluded with a $118 million settlement, and its trajectory encompassed personal achievements for Michelle as well. She forged a meaningful relationship with one of the named plaintiffs in the case: “It was early enough in my career that it was maybe only the second or third deposition that I had defended, and it was a very important case for the firm,” she said. “To have realized I developed a level of trust with her [the plaintiff] that allowed the both of us to get through that deposition successfully was wonderful — I had the trust of my client, the trust of this totally brilliant person who I was so honored to represent. That was really exciting to me.”

Lamy noted that a major advantage of working at a firm like Lieff Cabraser is the awareness that she is always advocating for cases and causes that are just. Her ongoing involvement in cases that strengthen anti-discrimination laws makes her work profoundly inspiring.

“At the most basic level, it’s following my moral compass and taking great comfort in the fact that I know at the end of every day that I’m proud of the work that I’ve done, and that I know that I’m on what I perceive to be the right side of the development of the law,” she added.
