About Daniel P. Chiplock

A partner in Lieff Cabraser’s New York office, Daniel P Chioplock is the Chair of the Securities & Financial Fraud practice group. He has played an active role in virtually all of the firm’s financial cases over the last two decades, including the firm’s multi-year investigation and litigation concerning overcharges in foreign currency exchange transactions by custodial banks such as BNY Mellon. That case, litigated in partnership with the Department of Justice and the New York Attorney General’s office, resulted in more than $500 million in recoveries for pension funds and other affected institutions. Of Dan’s and co-counsel’s efforts, Judge Lewis A. Kaplan of the SDNY stated: “This really was an extraordinary case in which plaintiff’s counsel performed…an extraordinary service… They did a wonderful job in this case…. This was an outrageous wrong committed … and plaintiffs’ counsel deserve a world of credit for taking it on, for running the risk, for financing it and doing a great job.”

Dan has also been heavily involved in numerous shareholder derivative lawsuits led by the firm, including cases against Broadcom and Cablevision for backdating stock options awards to company executives, and currently against the Board of Fox Corp. for damages stemming from Fox’s actionable defamation of Dominion and Smartmatic in the wake of the 2020 election. On the consumer front, Dan has represented New York consumers overcharged by deceptive trade practices by Microsoft Corporation, as well as customers victimized by the practice of numerous national banks of reordering check payments in order to charge excessive overdraft fees.
