We’re proud to share that Lieff Cabraser partner Kevin R. Budner has been appointed to serve on the Board of Directors of the San Francisco Bay Area Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights.
Since its founding shortly after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Lawyers’ Committee has been a preeminent Bay Area nonprofit that champions the legal rights of people of color, poor people, immigrants, and refugees. Among other things, the organization runs legal service clinics, leads impact litigation, and leverages the legal resources of the San Francisco bar for meaningful, systemic change. Last year alone, the Lawyers’ Committee harnessed more than 29,000 hours of pro bono work towards a more just society.

About Kevin R. Budner
A partner in Lieff Cabraser’s San Francisco office, Kevin R. Budner specializes in complex, high-impact litigation. Of particular note, Kevin was one of the lead attorneys prosecuting San Francisco’s case in the nationwide opioid litigation. He directed the team’s discovery efforts against Walgreens and played a key role in the multi-month bellwether trial, which resulted in a landmark opinion by Judge Charles R. Breyer, who described the evidence against Walgreens as “devastating.” This victory secured a $230 million recovery for San Francisco and was instrumental in driving Walgreens’ multi-billion dollar, nationwide settlement.
Kevin’s successes also include securing over $14 billion in settlements for vehicle owners in the Volkswagen “Clean Diesel” multidistrict litigation, one of the largest consumer fraud cases in history. The team’s achievements earned the California Daily Journal’s “California Lawyer of the Year” award and recognition as finalists for the Consumer Attorneys of California’s prestigious Consumer Attorney of the Year award.
In 2021, Kevin was recognized as a “Top 40 Under 40 Lawyer” by the Daily Journal, a “Rising Star of the Plaintiffs’ Bar” by the National Law Journal, and a “Rising Star for Class Action Law” by Law360. He has been named among the “Ones to Watch” by Best Lawyers from 2021 to 2025 and has been honored as a Super Lawyers “Rising Star” every year since 2019.
