As reported by Law360, University of California researchers have asked a federal judge to preliminarily approve a proposed settlement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that would resolve the EPA-related claims in the ongoing UC researcher class action challenging the Trump administration’s termination of federally funded research grants.
Under the proposed agreement, the EPA has agreed not to terminate, indefinitely suspend, or disallow costs for 24 covered research grants except for specified instances of noncompliance and following proper notice. Eligible grants would also receive no-cost extensions to help account for time lost during the funding disruptions. The proposed settlement follows earlier court victories for the researchers, including a preliminary injunction restoring terminated grants and subsequent relief requiring reinstatement of grants the government had sought to suspend.
