Farmers Auto Insurance Rate Discrimination
Lieff Cabraser represented a class of Farmers auto insurance customer in Texas, in a case alleging that Farmers illegally discriminated against its existing automobile insurance customers by keeping them from getting lower rates only made available to new customers The federal complaint alleged that Farmers charged more to their existing customers than they charged their new customers for the same or virtually the same insurance coverage, and kept their most loyal, existing customers in the dark about the lower, otherwise available rates.
In 2019, the parties reached a settlement of the class action valued at $52 million, that provides direct compensation to the class. The settlement received final approval from th Court in 2020.
