Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital Midtown Drug Error Injuries Investigation
Lieff Cabraser is investigating multiple reports of drug administration errors in August of 2026 at Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, including one patient who went in for “routine” knee surgery and was left partially paralyzed. The now-paralyzed patient was supposed to receive anesthetic prior to surgery, and instead was given the potassium that led to her T6 paralysis. (Potassium chloride can be extremely dangerous when administered incorrectly, and was in fact used as a part of Tennessee’s lethal injection protocol in the past.)
News coverage indicates the hospital had reported the incidents to state regulators, but has not publicly reported the cause or any changes made in the wake of the mistakes. The fact that multiple patients were affected here suggests a system-wide breakdown.
