Ozempic and Other Weight Control Drug Injuries

Patients using Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound for chronic weight management report serious gastric injuries that are not included in drug package warnings

Lieff Cabraser’s nationally-recognized personal injury practice group is investigating patient claims that use of Ozempic and Mounjaro for obesity and chronic weight management is causing them to develop the severe stomach paralysis condition known as gastroparesis and other serious injuries. Ozempic and Wegovy (semaglutide), manufactured by Novo Nordisk, and Mounjaro and Zepbound (tirzepatide), manufactured by Eli Lilly, are injectable prescription drugs used to treat type 2 diabetes and obesity.

Studies have shown that many diabetes patients suffering from chronic obesity do not know they already have mild diabetic gastroparesis until they take a drug like Ozempic or Mounjaro, both of which also exacerbate the symptoms of existing diabetic gastroparesis. Another study found that those who use these drugs for weight loss face an increased risk of pancreatitis, gastroparesis, and bowel obstruction.

The labels on these drugs warn of possible adverse gastrointestinal effects, but they do not warn of the true nature and severity of these adverse effects, and they do not mention gastroparesis. Had patients know the true and hidden danger of these drugs, they would likely have reconsidered their decision to use the drugs and avoided them.
