23andMe Data Breach Investigation
Lieff Cabraser is investigating 23andMe on behalf of users who suffered harm as a result of a vast data breach at 23andMe.
In late 2023, genetic testing company 23andMe suffered a massive data breach affecting 7 million users, approximately half of 23andMe’s reported userbase. The company stated publicly that confidential user data had been accessed by “threat actors,” and that that hackers were also able to access “a significant number of files containing profile information about other users’ ancestry.”
Reportedly, hackers subsequently began selling 23andMe profiles for between $1 and $10 per account, with information revealed that included some details about genetic ancestry results. Later, hackers released 23andMe user information containing records of 4 million users. 23andMe did inform many affected users in the wake of the breach.
Lieff Cabraser’s nationally-recognized Data Privacy practice group is interested in speaking with 23andMe users affected by the data breach. If you received notice from 23andMe that your data was exposed, please use the form on this page to reach out to an experienced data privacy lawyer at Lieff Cabraser today to learn more about your rights and potential recovery.
