We are proud to announce that the Daily Journal (subscription) has named Lieff Cabraser partners Kelly M. Dermody and Anne B. Shaver as Top Labor & Employment Lawyers for 2018. This is a first-time award for Anne, while Kelly’s joins the list for the sixth time since 2011.

The Journal highlighted Kelly’s cases against big corporate targets, including Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Google Inc., and Duke University. Currently, she is leading a certified class action alleging wage suppression and price-fixing against the deans of the medical facilities at Duke University and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The publication also makes note of her active involvement in the #MeToo movement, helping women resolve sexual misconduct claims.

“It’s been really amazing to watch the impact on the culture of legal claims,” said Dermody. “There is so much more willingness on the part of women to come forward and name the things that have happened.”

The Journal’s profile of Anne Shaver focuses on her involvement in gender class actions that challenge the business practices and work cultures at some of the most powerful companies in the world, including Google, Microsoft, and Goldman Sachs.

On a newer case that was filed late last year, Anne represents women who were paid less than their male counterparts at Google. Despite performing substantially equal or similar work in engineering, program management, sales and early childhood education, these female employees still experienced a gender pay gap. The case against Google is among the first to be brought under California’s amended Equal Pay Act.

“I like the most having the opportunity to bring cases that move the law in a progressive direction for employees,” notes Anne.

Congratulations to both Kelly and Anne!

Upholding Employee Rights

Lieff Cabraser has a strong tradition of fighting for employee rights across America. Our employment law class action cases challenge discrimination based on employees’ race, color, national origin, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, or disability; wage violations, including failure to pay overtime, break time, or vacation time; and misuse of employees’ retirement benefits. We also represent employees who “blow the whistle” on wrongdoing by their employers as well as in other cases alleging violations of the law.
