On March 28th, 2023, the American Bar Association Section of Labor and Employment Law opened its 2023 National Conference on Equal Employment Opportunity Law in Las Vegas, Nevada. The conference, which runs through March 31st, brings together highly esteemed legal professionals to discuss cutting-edge legal and policy developments in Equal Employment Opportunity-related workplace issues. Presented by the Section’s Equal Employment Opportunity Committee, the program is focused on the theme of the expanded expectations that employees and other stakeholders have for employers and the ongoing dissolution of the hard lines between work and non-work issues. Each panel will address issues and concerns from plaintiff, management, union, and government perspectives.

The conference’s notable participants include Lieff Cabraser attorneys Daniel M. Hutchinson, Anne B. Shaver, and Tiseme Zegeye.

On Tuesday, March 28th, Daniel Hutchinson participated in a panel discussion titled “Navigating Expanding Expectations Around Corporate Social Responsibility.” The panel explored rapidly changing workplace norms and expectations in the face of technological advances, pressing social issues, and the need for alignment between corporate and personal values.

On March 29th, Tiseme Zegeye hosted a constituency meeting for Employee/Plaintiff counsel. The meeting welcomed union counsel to attend and discuss pressing matters concerning employee rights and representation.

On Friday, March 31st, Anne B. Shaver will moderate a panel titled “Protections and Restrictions for Standing Up and Speaking Out in the Workplace.” The session will examine various forms of employee activism, the legal protections and restrictions surrounding it, and the role of technology and social media in amplifying these issues.

Tiseme served on the Program Planning Committee as an event Co-Chair, and Anne is a current member of the Equal Employment Opportunity Committee. Lieff Cabraser is a proud sponsor of the event.
