Lawn Mower False Advertising Class Action
Result: $65 million settlement
Year: 2010
In re Lawn Mower Engine Horsepower Marketing and Sales Practices Litigation
Lieff Cabraser served as co-counsel for consumers that alleged manufacturers of certain gasoline-powered lawn mowers misrepresented, and significantly overstated, the horsepower of the product. As the price for lawn mowers is linked to the horsepower of the engine — the higher the horsepower, the more expensive the lawn mower — defendants’ alleged misconduct caused consumers to purchase expensive lawn mowers that provided lower horsepower than advertised. In August 2010, the Court approved a $65 million settlement of the action.
