Mark Chalos in the Tennessean on the Brentwood Academy Negligence Lawsuit and Damages Caps

A civil lawsuit against Brentwood Academy accusing the Nashville prep school of negligence and fact concealment relating to an allegedly pervasive pattern of bullying, sexual harassment, assault and sexual assault is seeking $30 million in combined damages. Brentwood Academy is accused of allowing teenage male students to repeatedly harass and sexually assault a classmate, and then downplaying the attacks and failing to report the incident to authorities. In addition to seeking justice for the plaintiff, the lawsuit will also test the constitutionality of Tennessee’s lawsuit damages caps. [Read more…]

Lieff Cabraser Nashville lawyers Mark Chalos, Kenny Byrd, and Andrew Kaufman were at the Tennessee legislature Tuesday fighting for the rights of Tennesseans. The lawyers met with legislators from both parties and discussed the attempts by special interests to interfere with Tennesseans’ right to hold wrongdoers accountable through jury trials. Lieff Cabraser attorneys Mark P. Chalos, Kenneth S. Byrd, and John T. Spragens volunteered today at the Legal Aid of East Tennessee clinic in Gatlinburg, Tennessee to provide free legal help for the victims of the Smoky Mountain wildfires in Sevier County. The wildfires, constituting one of the largest natural disasters in the history of Tennessee, occurred from November 28 to December 9, 2016, claiming at least 14 lives and injuring 134 others. Criminal Trial Begins for Pharmacy Exec Following Deaths Across U.S. from Contaminated Meningitis Meds

As reported by USA Today, criminal prosecution of those allegedly responsible for the 2012 distribution of contaminated and lethal back pain medication begins this week as the first pharmacy executive involved goes to trial in federal court in Boston. The criminal prosecution follows a federal probe and two years of civil litigation, as hundreds were injured and at least 76 died after contracting fungal meningitis from the contaminated steroid injections.
