The legal publication The Recorder has named Lieff Cabraser as a recipient for its 2015 Litigation Department of the Year awards in the category of Labor and Employment Law.
We offer our congratulations to the students from Berkeley Law for winning a national trial advocacy competition this past weekend in New Orleans, Louisiana. Sponsored by the American Bar Association’s Section of Labor and Employment Law, the competition introduces law students to the challenges and rewards of employment and labor litigation.
Legal news service Law360 has announced the winners of its Practice Groups of the Year award, “awarded to firms that came through for their clients in 2014, sealing the big deals and winning the high-stakes suits.” Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein was selected as Law360’s Product Liability Group of the Year.
U.S. News & Best Lawyers published their 2015 Best Law Firms book this month. Lieff Cabraser is proud to be selected again as the “Law Firm of the Year” in the category of Mass Tort Litigation/Class Actions – Plaintiffs. This represents the fifth consecutive year that U.S. News & Best Lawyers have recognized Lieff Cabraser as a national “Law Firm of the Year.”
The National Law Journal has named Lieff Cabraser attorney Elizabeth J. Cabraser to its inaugural list of Litigation Trailblazers & Pioneers. Fifty of the nation’s top litigators were chosen based on their “remarkable successes” as well as “deep passion and perseverance in pursuit of their mission.”
On December 16, 2014, the Anti-Defamation League recognized Lieff Cabraser partner Kelly M. Dermody with its Distinguished Jurisprudence Award at a gala luncheon in San Francisco. The award celebrated Dermody’s leadership and dedication to serving the public interest, improving access to justice, and ensuring that the rights of historically disenfranchised persons are protected. Lieff Cabraser Managing Partner and ADL New York regional board member Steven E. Fineman introduced and presented the award to Dermody.
Law360, a subsidiary of LexisNexis, has named Lieff Cabraser attorney Kelly M. Dermody as one of the top six employment lawyers in the nation and designated her an “Employment MVP” for 2014. As Law360 explains, the award honors “elite attorneys” who have had outstanding “successes in high-stakes litigation, record-breaking deals and complex global matters.”
Benchmark Litigation, a publication of the UK-based Legal Media Group (which also produces Institutional Investor), has published its 2015 profile of U.S. law firms – “the eighth annual edition… [of] the definitive guide to America’s leading litigation firms and attorneys.” Although the publication focuses primarily on defense firms, we received the highest ranking for law firms with California offices and the second highest ranking for law firms with New York offices. The comments about our firm include “nationally known and respected,” “plaintiff powerhouse,” and “hardest working and ethical.”
Law360, a legal news service, has selected Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein as one of the nation’s Most Feared Plaintiffs Firms of 2014 in its second annual list. Law360 observed that Lieff Cabraser’s active involvement in cases this year, including the litigation against General Motors’ faulty ignition switches, the employment and gender bias case against Goldman Sachs Group, and the $39 million class settlement against Bank of America and Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. for alleged gender discrimination, has led the law firm to stand out among its peers.
The National Law Journal and Law.com have published their inaugural list of “America’s Elite Trial Lawyers,” an award for plaintiffs’ law firms “that are doing the most creative and substantial work on the plaintiffs side,” and included Lieff Cabraser in their list. The publication “vetted more than 100 firms, poring over nominations and reporting on performance,” and “recognized the work of the firms as a whole, understanding that successful trial work is usually the result of a team effort.”
In an in-depth profile, Law360 traces Elizabeth Cabraser’s journey from a law student in the mid-1970’s to a “Titan of the Plaintiffs Bar” and name partner at one of the “leading plaintiffs” law firms in the nation today. Cabraser’s career began with a modest handwritten index card offering her legal research skills on a law library bulletin board spotted by Robert Lieff.
The Best Lawyers in America, a legal peer-review publication, has announced its 2015 listing of outstanding attorneys and leading lawyers. Based on over 5.5 million evaluations of legal professionals, the publication’s 21st edition includes 52,488 attorneys in 137 practice areas across all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
